Instagram Takeover for North Norfolk Living - Into the Wild

Vintage Deli Instagram Takeover for North Norfolk Living Magazine

The Story Behind the Pictures

Friday Morning - My Annie did the honours of being the takeover money shot - she's my money shot. My Tribal Warrior. Fearless. Hilarious & So loving.

AND then.... the control was in my hands!!!!

Feeling empowered - oh the things i could do! But NOOOOOO - Straight to food! It was lunch after all. So I instagram Storied 2 sumptuous Home Made Sausage Rolls & a slice of Chocolate Courgette Cake from Hectors Barn in Harpley - I Stupidly forgot to save the pic so it's gone into the abyss but they got thumbs up from us.

Hectors Barn is a haven of French Rustic Interiors & have an abundance of Christmas Gift ideas. In their Harpley Shop they have a cafe with delicious locally made food, healthy snacks & Norfolk Produce. They are also Annie Sloan specialists and stockists. Well worth a Visit and only 2 minutes from Happy Valley where the Insta takeover took place.

Happy Valley - A Little Background

My grandfather, Frank Coe, referred to the land that lay in the Gentle Valley between Massingham & Grimston in West Norfolk as "Happy Valley". The energy is so calming and it's hard not to feel serene here.  From what i've read recently our appreciation for this area is no coincidence and living in the forest may also be a big contributor.

Forest Bathing

Taken From Quartz Website - The Following Read Explains Why

The tonic of the wilderness was Henry David Thoreau’s classic prescription for civilization and its discontents, offered in the 1854 essay Walden: Or, Life in the Woods. Now there’s scientific evidence supporting eco-therapy. The Japanese practice of forest bathing is proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing.

Forest bathing—basically just being in the presence of trees—became part of a national public health program in Japan in 1982 when the forestry ministry coined the phrase shinrin-yoku and promoted topiary as therapy.

Happy Valley Norfolk

Happy Valley is in a designated Norfolk Wildlife Trust Site with 250 Acres of Congham Heath Woodland adjoining so you can walk to the village without even stepping onto the road. It's also great for some gentle off road biking. At present we have our King Nutkin Tree Hut, Denver Rest Shepherds Hut & Tawny Hut. During warmer months we also have a Tipi, Bell Tents and Wild Camping availability. The Treehouse build is due to start in January so watch this space. You can also hire out the entire Venue for your perfect Woodland Wedding or Week long Festival Wedding like Callum & Jo's Festival Wedding this Summer.

Below - King Nutkin Shepherds Hut - Complete with a King Size Bed, Wood Burner, Kitchenette, BreakFast Bar, Fridge, Toaster, Hob and Outdoor Seating. BBQ, Firepit. Woodland Garden. Private Heated Shower & Toilet. She's our most popular destination for Couples looking for some R&R.

I posted this Picture as we're running a competition on Instagram where you can win a Weekend for 2  at our King Nutkin Hut this Winter - Dates available from mid December.  Head over to @HappyVNorfolk and Enter - Our previous competition Winners came last weekend and loved it. See our Reviews on our Facebook Page

Below - Denver Rest is a cosy shepherds hut for 2 which consists of a real Double Bed, Kitchenette, Outdoor Kitchen, Fridge, Hob, BBQ, Firepit etc. There's a private Heated Shower and Toilet with Denver Rest. We also have our Tawny Hut which sits just to left of this should you wish you bring friends or have slightly older children who'd love their very own private room. Tawny has a Super King Real Bed.

Just down the road from Happy Valley is Roydon Common. This was the scene for my next Insta Takeover Pic. This beautiful Nature Reserve is a secret gem in West Norfolk. The biggest Heath Restoration project in the UK she's unrivalled for heathland beauty, Wild Ponies & rare species.

As it's the Vintage Deli takeover I'd better give us a bit of attention.

Vintage Deli was my first Love before Bubbas and Marriage. I'm still not over it and I'm bringing Vintage Deli into our life at Happy Valley later next year.

Here's a pic of me from the first Vintage Deli photoshoot I did at Happy Valley
Photographer - Olivia French (CO)
Vintage Deli Swarovski Embellished Turquoise Empire Dress

Established 7 years ago I began trading online & then opened up in a shop in Burnham Market selling Vintage Gems from the 20s - 80s. A Vintage Lover from an early age, I only ever wore my mums Vintage pieces.  I love the eco credentials recycling Vintage Clothing brings along with sensational stories and tailoring behind each piece. They evoke so much emotion in me.

After having  a break from selling Vintage when I had Annie those Vintage urges are now returning at speed. I've a whole barn full of beautiful pieces in need of their perfect partner.

Below is the Instagram Guru Ali Dover wearing a Vintage Liberty Dress from our little Vintage Deli Barn.
This beautiful shot was taken by another Insta Queen Hollie Evans - aka FloraFairweather

This love of vintage fashion has naturally led me into Styling and i've been lucky enough to work with some super talented creatives for a number of Magazines.

The Next Insta Pic

I popped into Pia Plums in Grimston last week to help her with a little Styling as she's venturing into Wedding Prop Hire and by gosh she has some fantastic offerings.
The Moroccan Lanterns were a favourite. Vintage Wedding Dress from Vintage Deli.

How To Create Your Own Unique Top

If you are a fashion lover - aren’t we all, but are bored of being a shape and following the crowd, you might want to wear something different. Fashion is meant to be about self-expression, about showing the world who you are. It’s not just meant to be about dressing like everyone else; it’s about dressing in your own unique style.

That being said, many of the designs that come off the catwalk and into the shops are just too cute to miss out on. That’s why so many of us fashion lovers all end up dressed the same, as we all buy from the same stores.

However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Well, not all the time anyway. Instead of buying tops for your favorite high street store, why not design them yourself?

top design.jpg

Fancy designing your own tops? Yes - here is what you need to know.

Draw out your design

Once you have an idea in your head of the style of top that you want to create, the next step is to draw out your design. Start off by drawing out a few random designs and then choose your favorite one - there is sure to be one that takes your fancy.

Spend some time perfecting the design, so that you are completely happy with it. Then, the next step is to leave your design for a day or two and then come back to it with fresh eyes. You may love it and still be happy with it, or you might notice a couple of things that need to be changed.

Picture it on a top

When you have completed your design, it’s a good idea to imagine how it would look on a top. Perhaps you could print out the design and place it on a plain top to get an idea of how the final piece would come out.

You might love how it looks, or you might think that a couple of the details need to be changed. For example, you might not be happy with the size of the design or maybe you aren’t keen on one of the colors. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter, you can always change it.

Contact a design company

When your design is exactly how you want it, the next step is to contact a t-shirt design company. Companies like Entrusted Tees will be able to take a look at your design. The reason that you need to do this is to make sure that your design can be printed and will come out well.

If not, then you can then edit it to ensure that it is perfect. This might take some time, but that doesn’t matter, as long as you get the design spot on.

Get your t-shirt printed

Once the design is just right, the last thing that you need to do is get your design printed onto a t-shirt. If you have certain expectations about the type of top you would like, make sure that you specify about these beforehand.

If you love fashion, but love being unique, designing your own t-shirt is perfect. Just make sure to follow the tips in this guide and you can design a fantastic t-shirt.

How To Find That Vintage Inspired Look For Your Man This Season

Buying vintage wear can quickly become a hobby you love. You start to have an eye for the quality pieces, and you make the effort to travel to the festivals and markets for a bargain. Buying clothing for guys is never quite as easy. Not all guys follow the same vintage look that you love. But there are some great menswear stores that sell clothes that could compliment your vintage tastes. Here’s what to look for:

Natural fibres - Clothing made of natural fabrics rather than man-made fibres lends itself to any look. Genuine vintage clothing in anything other than a natural material is very hard to find. Cotton and linen wear work very well. There are some great cuts in American made shirts at the moment that could easily look like an homage to vintage men's workwear. There are several stores online specialising in good quality American wear, so have a look to see what might suit your man.

Vintage Jackets - Jackets and coats have become popular again thanks to TV period dramas. There are more and more great cuts for men's jackets and coats. One or two of the department store designers have been exploring forties, fifties and sixties menswear. They've brought some modern twists into traditional menswear. The result is some wonderful, vintage inspired coats, just perfect for complimenting your outfit.

Trousers - Men's trousers were traditionally heavier than they are today. This is mainly because of the material used. If the sixties if your era, you may already have come across some great modern men's linen trousers. Some are reminiscent of what was very popular in Italy during that time. Add a collarless sweater to the outfit and you may have recreated a great look that never should have faded from fashion.

Scarves - Scarves are a huge part of the vintage look whatever era you are fond of. For men, the choices are wool, cotton and silk. Length is key to the various lengths. A long and loose look in wool can be very reminiscent of Tom Baker’s Doctor Who, but also look good for a post-war outfit. Higher quality fabrics can step you back in time to an earlier part of the twentieth century, or to a more lavish seventies look. Some would label these ideas as more retro, but they can work well for those looking for a vintage flavour.

Hats - Guys just love hats. Vintage loving girls love how hats can hide a twenty-first-century hair cut too! If your guy isn’t cut out for the Brylcreem, grab an authentic vintage hat from somewhere like a vintage festival. A vintage cap would top an American shirt off well. Alternatively, try a feather or ribbon dressed Fedora hat.

Whether it’s vintage, retro or just something with a great style, you can find some great menswear to create the look you want. He doesn’t have to be into vintage to look great on your arm, but there are plenty of authentic suppliers around if he’s game. Who knows, buying him some great styles he wouldn’t normally wear could convert him to be a true fan of the vintage look!

Buying Vintage: What You Need to Know

We all know I love vintage, and I encourage others to buy vintage too. It’s better for the environment, and you end up buying something that none else you know will own. It’s the best, most guaranteed way to look cool and unique. But what do you need to know before you go out and buy vintage? Read on to find out…

Some Things are Reworked

Some stores can be a little misleading with the way they word things. I’m not sure if they do this on purpose, or if they just think novice buyers will know what they mean. Some pieces will be referred to as vintage, when they have actually been re-worked. This means that vintage material has been used to make a different garment, or that the garment has been customised and altered quite a bit. There’s nothing wrong with this of course, it’s simply giving it a new lease of life. However, you should know this before you hand over your cash!

You May Need to Alter it

If you find the perfect vintage garment, it makes no sense to leave it on the shelf and think about it for weeks afterwards. Don’t worry if it doesn't fit quite right or it isn’t the right shape; you can alter it. Either do this yourself if you’re confident with a sewing machine, or take it to a trusted tailor. This is especially important if you’re using a piece for a wedding or a big event. You can then get a lot of wear out of your new favourite piece!

Check the Fabric for Faults

Don’t assume that every piece of vintage that is being sold in shops is a quality piece. Some shops will try to get away with selling faulty items, or items with wear and tear. It’s usually up to you to find these yourself. If you notice the price is a bit low for a piece, it’s a wise idea to check carefully for faults. Even if the price isn’t low, double check and check again. You don’t want to be overcharged or end up with a piece that is unwearable.

It’s OK to Buy Modern ‘Vintage’ Sometimes

On occasion, I buy modern clothes that look vintage. I don’t do this much mind; only when I can’t find the perfect vintage piece I’m looking for. Aran Sweaters Direct do some great traditional Irish sweaters that I haven’t found anywhere else.

Be Prepared to Take Care of Your Vintage

You can’t treat your vintage like you treat the rest of your clothes. NO floordrobes whatsoever if you plan on buying vintage clothing. You need to be prepared to look after your vintage. You can’t keep it in plastic like some items, as it can damage the fabric.

Gauging Authenticity

You need to make sure that the vintage clothing you’re buying is authentic. Some people consider 90s clothing to be vintage, others don’t. You need to decide what you’re happy with at the end of the day, but it’ll help you to be able to tell what comes from where. There are lots of guides online to help you!

Happy shopping!

How To Bring Vintage To Your Wedding

Finding the right vintage look can easily become a hobby you enjoy for life. You may spend several hours each week searching eBay or vintage fayres to find pieces that you like. You and your partner may find the draw of vintage a joint interest that enhances your relationship. Having a joint interest in life certainly does help love blossom. You may both be ready to take the next step in your relationship. Committing your lives to each other is a big step. Now is the time to start considering how you can formally come together in your favorite vintage style.

For those of you keen to keep the vintage gal in you alive, shopping for the right engagement ring can be incredibly challenging. This is the one piece of jewelry that we might be the most reluctant to accept second hand. Fortunately, there are some incredible designers out there. Some produce diamond rings with all the glamor of vintage - just perfect for an engagement. You can find some of those designer engagement rings here or by searching online. If you or your partner prefer to keep the ring a surprise until the proposal, try dropping some hints about the kind of designs that you like.

As avid collectors of all things vintage, you may already have visited one or two vintage festival weddings. These are great for inspiration. Take your time to find the right pieces for your big day. When vintage is such a big part of your life, it's important to incorporate it into your big day. Even if you can’t find the right dress out there, you may find photos or illustrations to allow you to design your own. If handicrafts are not your thing, you can usually find someone keen to take the project on at a local education or community center. You could commission a professional to produce something glamorous enough for a 1940s movie star.

If you have a large social circle from your vintage interests, consider finding a venue for an outdoor wedding. You may also want to celebrate announcing your engagement. You can do this anywhere you like, but some people like to let their family know first. If you are having a big party, you can request that everyone comes in a particular vintage style. You might choose 1940s or 1920s as your theme. It can be great fun putting together the right playlists for music, and finding old recipes for dishes that were popular in that era.

While some people may call it a ‘theme’ wedding, walking up the aisle in vintage clothing is about your lifestyle. You wear your style daily, and you incorporate aspects of a bygone era into your life as much as possible. Don’t settle for second best on this important day, and be sure to hire a great photographer to capture everything. For vintage lovers, the style choices are about beauty, refinement, and elegance. What better day to show it all off than your own wedding day. Congratulations!
